Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ Starts Receiving Android 8.0 Oreo Update


After a long wait, Samsung has finally started rolling out the stable Android Oreo update for Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones. Earlier today, the Update has started rolling out in Germany but it is expected to roll out in other countries over the coming weeks. However, Samsung hasn’t given a timetable for the Oreo roll-out globally.

The Oreo rollout has started today with firmware version G955XXU1CRAP for the Galaxy S8+ in Germany. It weighs 487MB and comes with the latest February 2018 security patch along with the Samsung Experience 9.0 UI. This new user experience from the company includes an improved keyboard, smarter device search, Bixby Briefing, Color Lens, and a lot more.

Notably, the beta testers will get the Oreo update first, while the regular users on Android Nougat are expected to get the Oreo update after 24 hours. You can also check for the update manually by going to Settings > Software update.

The Oreo update will bring a bunch of new features including Picture in Picture (PiP) mode – It allows you to miniaturise a YouTube video feed or a video call on Hangouts or Duo into the corner of your screen so you can carry on with other tasks simultaneously. It also gives faster boot time and Restricts background activities. Google has finally introduced rounder face emoticons for Android Oreo and added 60+ new emojis. Other features include installation of apps via APK, notification dots, Wide-gamut colour for apps, snoozing individual notification, Adaptive icons, Keyboard navigation, WebView enhancements and much more.
