Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge Start Getting Android 8.0 Oreo update


Samsung has finally started pushing Android 8.0 Oreo updates for its two years old Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones. The firmware update is currently being rolled out over-the-air in the United Kingdom but is expected to roll out in other markets as well.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 firmware update carries version number G930FXXU2ERD5, while the Galaxy S7 Edge firmware carries version number G935FXXU2ERD5. It weighs around 1.2 GB in size and is only available over-the-air right now and can’t be downloaded through SmartSwitch. The firmware update also comes with the April security patch along with Samsung Experience 9.0.

After the firmware update, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will get all of the new features that are part Android 8.0 Oreo including picture-in-picture mode that lets users to two tasks simultaneously. Android Oreo has other features like including Background limits, installation of apps via APK, over 60 new emojis, notification dots, Wide-gamut colour for apps, Snoozing individual notification, Adaptive icons, Keyboard navigation, WebView enhancements and much more.

The Samsung Experience U.I 9.0 brings host of new features features like a customizable keyboard, new emoji, stickers, Bixby briefing, new color lens display settings, dual apps, enhanced DeX support, better search – Finder gains search cards for contacts, settings, files as well as results from the Galaxy and Play stores and many more.

If you are a Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge user from the UK, you should be able to download the Android Oreo update from the Settings »About Phone »Software update menu on your device. As the update just started rolling out, it might take a while before it reaches everyone. We will let you know once update starts rolling out in other markets.
