Samsung Galaxy M20 Review: Great Smartphone at Great Price

From the past few years, Samsung has loosed its craze in the Smartphone market in India because of some other brands like Xiaomi, Honor, Vivo, Oppo, and Nokia who have launched their smartphones at a great budget. Also, they provided great performance, specifications and amazing design in their smartphones which Samsung used to offer a higher price than these brands. Now, to regain its market in India, Samsung has launched its two new smartphones Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 in the Indian Market at 7,990 and Rs. 10,990 respectively.

These Smartphones are Samsung’s first smartphone with an Infinity-V display and is categorized under a great price range. Both of these phones have almost the same specifications and has the same design. However, there is some difference in both of them in terms of their screen resolution, chipset, and battery capacity. Since both of these smartphones has almost the same features, I’ll be considering both of them wherever required, however, my focus will be on Galaxy M20. So, let’s dig in and find out is Samsung Galaxy M20 a worth buy?

Design and Display

Both of these smartphones share the same design. They have a plastic body at the sides of the body and has a Glass panel on the top of the back panel which gives it a clean and immersive look. As it has a plastic body all around the corner, you’ll get a good grip to hold your phone. However, the plastic quality could be improved as it seems like Samsung haven’t used good quality plastic here.

However, it has a premium look on the front with a waterdrop display. Also, both of these phones look tough and has a great build quality. Meanwhile, there’s a fingerprint sensor on the back of M20 which you didn’t get in Galaxy M10.

Talking about the display of Galaxy M10 and M20, both of these smartphones has 6.3-Inch FHD+ display which lets you enjoy videos at amazing quality. It produces deep colors and has great contrast and brightness. Also, Galaxy M20 supports Widevine L1 standard due to which means you will be able to stream video at true HD quality on platforms like YouTube and Amazon Prime Video. It is really one of the best display with Infinity-V display at this price range.

Specifications

The new Samsung Galaxy M20 is powered by Exynos 7904 while Galaxy M10 is powered by Exynos 7870 which are the brand new chipset manufactured by Samsung. Exynos 7904 is an octa-core chipset based on a 14nm process and is equipped with two Cortex-A73 cores that run at 1.8GHz, and six Cortex-A53 cores that run at 1.6GHz. In addition, both of these phones come with two variants, M10 has 2GB/16GB and 3GB/32GB variants while M20 come with 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB variants. However, it is advised that if you want high-end performance you should go with 4GB variant as it is capable to deliver great performance.

Apart from that, Samsung has loaded these smartphones with Android Oreo 8.1 and has Experience UI 9.5. However, it’s a bit disappointing that Samsung hasn’t loaded these phones with the latest Android Pie 9.0 and One UI. However, Samsung has promised that they will be releasing Android Pie for Galaxy M10 and M20 in August. So, you have to wait a while to get Android Pie running on these phones.

As far its call quality and speaker performance are concerned, Galaxy M20 has a single speaker at the bottom which delivers fairly good sound clarity. Also, the earpiece provided in these smartphones delivers great clarity on call. So, overall it has a good package of specifications which is sufficient for average performance.

Performance, Camera and Battery Life

Now let’s talk about the performance delivered by Galaxy M20. With the latest Exynos 7904 chipset which comes with a Mali-G71MP2 GPU, they are ready to deliver mild performance and let you perform average multitasking on your phone. Although Samsung has promised that these chipsets are optimized for India to deliver high-end performance, it doesn’t seem like that.

You can easily play low-intensive games on this phone but if you want to play some high-end games like PUBG, unfortunately, you’ll not be able to play them smoothly. On a medium graphics setting, you can play PUBG smoothly with some lags, however, if you make this setting to high you will notice a great framerate drops and will be harder to play. So, as per our review, this phone is made to deliver mild performance, not for extensive use.

Samsung has done a great job in Camera as they packed Galaxy M10 and M20 with a wide-angle Camera which lets you capture wider area in a single frame. Both of these phones comes with a dual-camera set up at the back with a 13MP primary sensor on the back with f/1.9 aperture and a secondary 5MP ultra wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture. However, the primary camera offers a decent picture quality but due to this wide-angle secondary camera, you can click some awesome shots.

However, there’s a difference in front-facing camera in both of these phones. Galaxy M10 comes with 5MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture while Galaxy M20 has 8MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. However, similar to the rear camera, selfie camera doesn’t provide much detail in the shots captured by them and deliver decent picture quality.

Now, coming to its battery life, Galaxy M20 comes with a 5000mAh battery while M10 has 3430mAh battery with fast charging support with a C-type port. They come with a 15W adaptor in the box for fast charging. Galaxy M20 has made to deliver huge battery even on extensive usage. You can easily get a full day backup even if you use this phone whole day. So, overall the battery performance is best among all in Samsung Galaxy M20.

Final Call

So at last, if you are looking for a smartphone with an amazing display and an average performance at a great price range, you can go for it. As you get a huge battery backup in this phone which is more than enough in this range.
