After several rumors and leaks, Samsung has finally taken the wrap off from the Galaxy ‘A’ series (2018), the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) were officially announced. Both the smartphones will be made available in early January 2018 and come in Black, Orchid Grey, Gold and Blue colour options. The Galaxy A8 (2018) is priced at €499 ($588 / Rs. 37,700 approx) while the Galaxy A8+ (2018) is priced at €599 ($700 / Rs. 45,000 approx)
Talking about specifications, the duo runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system with the Samsung Experience UI on top. The Galaxy A8 (2018) features a 5.6” full-HD+ (2220×1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio, while the Galaxy A8+ (2018) has a 6” FHD+ Super AMOLED display. Both are protected by a 2.5D curved glass on top similar to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The duo is powered by a 2.2GHz 64-bit Exynos 7885 octa-core SoC coupled with Mali-G71 GPU. The Galaxy A8 (2018) offers 4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage, while the Galaxy A8+ (2018) offers 4GB/ 6GB of RAM variants with 32GB and 64GB of internal storage respectively. The storage can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card.
Talking about camera, the duo will be first from Samsung to feature dual-selfie cameras. The dual camera setup features a 16MP sensor with f/1.9 aperture and an 8MP sensor with f/1.9 aperture. The dual cameras are used to create from clear portrait shots to close-ups with background blur. There is a pre-installed Live Focus feature that helps users to adjusts the bokeh effect before or after taking the picture. One can also add stickers to a selfie as well. On the rear side, there is a single 16MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture and dual LED flash.
The Galaxy A8 (2018) is fueled by a 3000mAh battery, while the Galaxy A8+ (2018) has a 3500mAh battery. They also support wired fast charging and wireless charging. Connectivity options include Dual-SIM support, NFC, MST, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), VHT80, 256QAM, Bluetooth v 5.0 (LE up to 2Mbps), ANT+, GPS, Glonass, and USB Type-C port. There is also a fingerprint scanner at the back just beneath the primary camera module. Also, both the phones are the first in A series to support Samsung Gear VR.The Galaxy A8 (2018) measures 149.2 x 70.6 x 8.4 mm and weighs 172 grams, while the Galaxy A8+ (2018) measures 159.9 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm and weighs 191 grams.
“With the release of the Galaxy A8(2018) and A8+(2018), we’re bringing our customers’ favorite features from our flagship smartphones, such as the Infinity Display and our first Dual Front Camera with Live Focus, to our Galaxy A series, which is already known for its premium design,” said Junho Park, Vice President of Global Product Planning – Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics, in a press statement.
