Samsung Exynos 9810 with AI and Enhanced Multimedia Content is Officially Announced

Samsung has officially announced its next-generation Exynos 9 series chipset dubbed as Exynos 9810. It is the second generation 10nm chipset from the company designed for smartphones and smart devices. The chipset is currently in mass production and it is highly likely to power the latest Galaxy S9 series that is reported to be announced next month.

The Exynos 9810 is a third generation octa-core processor with 10-nanometer (nm) FinFET process technology. It has four high-performance Exynos M3 CPUs that can be clocked at 2.9GHz and four ARM A55 CPUs that are optimized for efficiency. This is coupled with the latest Mali G72MP18 GPU for smooth gaming and multimedia performance. Compared to its predecessor, the Exynos 9810 is capable of delivering twofold single-core performance and it also offers 40 percent better multi-core performance.

The Exynos 9810 processor also comes equipped with neural network-based deep learning and robust security. It can easily recognise people and objects in photos for quickly performing image search. With its depth-sensing technology, it can scan a user’s face in 3D for hybrid face detection. The company says that “By utilizing both hardware and software, hybrid face detection enables realistic face-tracking filters as well as stronger security when unlocking a device with one’s face,” The Exynos 9810 also supports iris and fingerprint identification for protecting personal data.

The Exynos 9810 sports a new 1.2Gbps LTE modem that makes it easier to broadcast to stream videos at up to 4K resolution and 360-degree videos. It uses the Cat.18 LTE modem that supports up to 6x carrier aggregation (CA) for 1.2Gbps downlink and 200 megabits per second (Mbps) uplink. It also supports 4×4 MIMIO and 256-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation scheme.

The Exynos 9810 has a dedicated image processing and upgraded multi-format codec (MFC) which provide users an immersive multimedia experience. It can deliver advanced stabilization for images and video of up to 4K resolution, brighter photos in dim light with reduced noise and motion blur, and real-time out-of-focus photography. It also supports playback of 4K videos at 120fps. With 10-bit HEVC (high-efficiency video coding) and VP9 support, the MFC can render 1,024 different tones for each primary colour (red, green and blue).

The Exynos 9810 will be showcased at CES 2018 between Jan. 9 to 12 in Las Vegas, US.
