Samsung Enhances Accessibility for Color Blind Individuals with TV and Monitor Updates

Samsung is introducing a SeeColors mode to all of its 2023 TVs and monitors through a software update. This accessibility feature is designed to assist individuals with color vision deficiency (CVD), also known as color blindness. The mode offers nine picture presets that allow users to adjust the red, green, and blue levels to suit their needs and enhance their ability to distinguish on-screen colors based on the type and severity of their CVD. Previously available as a standalone app, SeeColors will now be integrated into the display’s accessibility menus for easier access.

It is important to note that Samsung does not recommend using the mode for medical diagnosis or treatment. It is solely intended to aid individuals already diagnosed and dealing with CVD.

Future updates

The announcement does not provide a complete list of devices that support SeeColors, but it mentions the Odyssey OLED G95SC and the recent additions to the Smart Monitor series. We have reached out to Samsung to inquire about plans for expanding the mode to older displays and the potential inclusion of the upgrade for Galaxy phones. Although SeeColors can be downloaded from the Google Play Store, we are interested in its integration as a native feature. We will provide updates on this topic in the future.

It is promising to see Samsung, along with other tech giants, striving to enhance the accessibility of their products to improve people’s lives. Apple will soon introduce Personal Voice, a synthesized voice feature aimed at assisting individuals who are losing their voice due to motor or cognitive impairment. Google has recently announced its plans to incorporate Optical Character Recognition technology into its Chrome browser, enabling it to read out PDFs. Microsoft has taken a hardware approach with its Adaptive Accessories.
