Rouyu Technology, a Chinese device maker has beaten the smartphone giants in the race to release the first phone with a foldable display with the launch of world’s first foldable smartphone dubbed as Rouyu FlexPai. It is also the first device in the world powered by 7nm Snapdragon 8150 a.k.a. Snapdragon 855 processor.
The Rouyu FlexPai has a 7.8” HD (1920 by 1440 pixels) AMOLED display with just 7.6mm thickness. as unfolded it is having a 4:3aspect ratio, while folding the display will result in the creation of two screens having 16:9 and 18:9 aspect ratios. The display is rated to being folded 200,000 times without the screen breaking. The software on the smartphone automatically detects when the is fold and will automatically switch the content to the half of the screen, and displays home screen on the other half.
The FlexPai runs on Water OS based on an unspecified version of Android operating system. As mentioned above, The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship SoC – the Snapdragon 8150 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 640 GPU. The 7nm processor running at a maximum clock speed of 2.8GHz. It offers 6GB of RAM with 128GB of Internal storage, 8GB of RAM with 256GB of Internal storage and 8GB of RAM with 512GB of Internal storage.
In terms of optics, the Rouyu FlexiPie comes equipped with a dual camera setup with a combination of a 16MP wide-angle lens and a 20MP telephoto lens with optical image stabilization and autofocus along with LED flash support. It can be used as both front and rear camera. The Rouyu FlexiPie is fuelled by a 3800mAh battery with Ro-Charge fast charging technology that can charge the device from 0 to 80% in 1 hour.
Coming on pricing, the Rouyu FlexiPie comes with the price tag of Yuan 8999 ($1290 approx. ) for the 6GB of RAM with 128GB storage variant, Yuan 9998 ($1434 approx.) for the 8GB of RAM with 256GB storage option, and the top-end 8GB of RAM with 512GB storage variant is priced at Yuan 12999 ($1864 approx.).
