Revealed: Post-Launch Plans for Diablo 4

Diablo 4 is scheduled to launch on June 4, just a few weeks from now. As the game nears completion, the team at Blizzard Entertainment has shared some information about the post-launch content that players can look forward to.

Starting in July, Diablo 4 will introduce “Seasons” as part of its post-launch content plan. These updates will occur quarterly and bring fresh ideas and concepts to the game’s Sanctuary world. The developers aim for Seasons to be moments of celebration for players that they can enjoy with friends, with each season featuring a new questline and rewards as players progress through their Season Journey and earn Favor to level up their Battle Pass.

While the specific details of each season are not yet available, players will need to complete Diablo 4’s campaign first before they can start a new season. Each season will come with its own Battle Pass, which has 27 free tiers and 63 premium tiers. Players can earn cosmetics and smoldering ashes that can be used on Season Blessings for bonuses, and these items are only available in the free Battle Pass to address any “pay-to-win” concerns.

Diablo 4 will also have a shop, but players need not worry about it affecting the game’s balance, as only cosmetic items can be purchased with real-life money. Blizzard has assured players that these items are purely aesthetic and intended for self-expression, and do not provide any gameplay advantages or affect players’ stats and abilities.

With these features, Diablo 4 looks to shape into the live-service AAA title players have come to expect. Seasons and the Battle Pass will give players reason to continue playing, and hopefully avoid repeating the mistakes that Diablo Immortal made last year, which caused fan backlash.
