Abbey Games has announced that a sequel to its indie god sim Reus is currently in development, nearly 10 years after the original game was released for Windows PCs. The first game was well-received by critics and sold over one million copies globally. Maarten Wiedenhof, Manuel Kerssemakers, and Adriaan Jansen, the founders of Abbey Games, stated, “The original Reus is a decade old, and much has changed in the gaming world. We’re excited to bring Reus 2 to this new era and see what it can offer to those who want to create their own ideal world!”
In Reus 2, players can create multiple planets using their elemental giant god characters. They can shape these planets in any way they wish to observe how the inhabitants react to the unique landscapes and challenges they face. And by “challenges they face,” we mean whatever the player decides to put them through. It’s a god simulator, after all, so players can choose to make life easy for one planet’s inhabitants while subjecting those on another planet to difficulties. They can even opt to stage an apocalypse and start anew. Aren’t you glad we’re not living in a simulation? (…Or are we?)
The developer reports that Reus 2 is still in the developmental phase. No release date has been announced yet, but those interested can add it to their Steam wishlist.
