Reportedly, Nintendo and Illumination are Close to Finalizing a Deal for a Zelda Movie.

Rumors are abound that Nintendo and Illumination, the animation studio behind successful films like Despicable Me and Minions, are in the final stages of producting a movie based on The Legend of Zelda. Industry insider Jeff Sneider was the first to report the news, stating that a deal between the two companies is very close to being finalized. According to Sneider, Universal is set to invest heavily in the project due to the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed over $1.3 billion at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing gaming adaptation of all time. This will mark the first real adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, which has only ever had a short-lived 13-episode animated TV series in the US back in 1989. A previous attempt by Netflix to create a live action series in 2015 was shut down by Nintendo after details of the project were leaked to the press. The new Zelda movie is set to arrive at a time where Nintendo is seeing incredible success with its products, including its recent gaming title Tears of the Kingdom, which became their fastest-selling game ever in the US with over 10 million copies being sold within just three days. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto had also teased last month that more movies are on the way, leaving many to wonder who will voice the iconic characters of Link and Zelda.
