In an astonishing turn of events, Jennifer Garner is set to reprise her role as Elektra in Deadpool 3, as reported by THR today.
IGN has reached out to Marvel and Garner’s representatives for comments on this exciting news.
This casting decision brings back memories of Garner’s portrayal of the famous assassin in the 2005 film, Elektra. Despite the movie’s critical failure and underwhelming box office performance, Garner’s performance was widely acclaimed.
This reunion not only reunites Garner with Ryan Reynolds, the star of Deadpool 3, but also with director Shawn Levy, as they previously collaborated on Netflix’s The Adam Project.
Despite the ongoing writers’ strike, Deadpool 3’s production is well underway, as confirmed by returning star Stefan Kapicic in May. On-set photos have already started circulating online. Marvel Studios is determined to move forward with the film, as the script was completed before the work stoppage was initiated in May.
Currently, Deadpool 3 is scheduled for release on May 3, 2024. However, its production may be affected if SAG-AFTRA calls for a strike. The actors’ guild recently extended its deadline with studios until July 12.
Garners’s return is not the only major star reprising a beloved role in Deadpool 3. Hugh Jackman will also make a comeback as Wolverine. Other returning cast members include Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Rob Delaney as Peter, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Leslie Uggams as Blind Al. However, Zazie Beetz will reportedly not return as Domino.
