In February this year, we get to know that Google is working on its Podcast app to give it a fresh look. The company mentioned earlier that the team behind the Google Podcast has been working hard to create a new desktop interface for the service. And now, the tech giant started rolling out the redesigned version of Google Podacast.
According to a report from 9to5Google, the tech giant has started rolling the redesigned Google Podcast to only a lilmited number of users. The report also claims that the new Google Podcast comes with a couple of much-awaited features like auto-downloading.
As soon as you get the latest update on your device, you’ll be greeted with a “Check out the new Google Podcasts” prompt. The prompt let you go through all the latest features that comes with the latest version of Google Podcast.
The new update comes with new ‘Home’ tab showcases the latest episodes from users’ subscriptions. Also, new episodes are now marked by a prominent red dot on the cover art. In addition to that, the updated design gets rid of recommended podcasts from underneath the latest episodes from your subscriptions. Now, you will see a list episodes from podcasts you have already subscribed. The list includes two lines of show notes and three buttons that will allow you to start playback, add to queue or initiate downloads for offline access.
Apart from this, there’s a new ‘Discover’ tab that features a bunch of suggestions for new podcasts and lets users search for popular shows. At last, there is a “Activity” tab lets you “manage your queue, downloads, and subscriptions.”
In addition to major changes in the design, Google has added some new features to its Podcast app. One of the most notable features of Podcast is the much-awaited Auto Downloading” feature that will automatically queue up a download for the next episode and auto-delete older episodes to conserve on-device storage. The app now also has new notification settings to help you get alerts from your subscriptions whenever they post a new episode.
As of now, this feature is rolling out gradually only to a limited number of users. However, it will be rolling out soon to everyone anytime in the coming weeks.
