However, in the film Red, White & Royal Blue, we are transported to a world where Uma Thurman (Kill Bill) reigns over America. According to the movie’s director and screenwriter, Matthew López, the behind-the-scenes experience of bringing this adventure to life was just as incredible as it appears onscreen, as he shared in an interview with Collider.
During the interview, López expressed his admiration for Thurman’s work, stating that having the accomplished Pulp Fiction star on set was truly a blessing. He also revealed that they shared the same vision for President Ellen Claremont’s character and that Thurman was involved in every step of the process:
“We had extensive discussions about the fact that women in positions of power in American politics often have to sacrifice their understanding of their own femininity in order to gain and maintain power. It was important to both Uma and myself that Ellen could be powerful while still defining femininity on her own terms. I included Uma in conversations about costume design, production design, and the set of the Oval Office. When she arrived on set, I had never encountered an actor so thoroughly prepared. She understood, without me having to explain, why every piece of furniture and article of clothing was chosen. It was a master class in prepared acting. Her presence elevated the performances of everyone involved.”
