Longtime Insidious veteran Lin Shaye reflects on the potential end of the horror franchise with Insidious: The Red Door.

Horror franchises have a tendency to be resurrected, even when we least expect it, regardless of how many times a film claims to be the “final chapter.” This is especially true when it comes to a series that is guaranteed to generate significant profit for a studio.

So when news broke that Jason Blum intended to put the long-running Insidious franchise on hold to prevent potential oversaturation, fans pondered what the future might hold and how long the beloved film series would remain dormant. But in the realm of horror, nothing stays buried for too long, does it?

Now, one of the key stars of the film is voicing her thoughts on the unexpected announcement, offering her perspective on the finality of Insidious: The Red Door.

Ending an Era for the Insidious Franchise

During a discussion with Screen Rant about the potential conclusion of the Insidious franchise, Lin Shaye shared her viewpoint, stating, “I believe everything has a beginning, middle, and end. I think sometimes, especially in storytelling, it’s enough already, as they say. We’ve all seen shows that go on forever, and we can’t help but wonder, ‘Isn’t this over yet? Is this saga still going?’ [Laughs].”

She goes on to suggest that there is always an opportunity for reinvention, saying, “I believe it is wise for a creator to know when it’s best to bring a story to a close, and I think this was an exceptional decision. It doesn’t necessarily mean the world of Insidious is over, but it does signify that this particular story now has a definitive beginning, middle, and end. I commend it. It is a brilliant script and a captivating narrative.”

Insidious: The Red Door is now playing in theaters, so be sure to catch it while you can to witness the culmination of it all. At least, for now…
