Major 5G modem chip manufacturer, Qualcomm has today announced a new 5G Modem Snapdragon X60. It is the 3rd generation 5G modem designed with the 5nm architecture. It is the world’s first 5nm 5G modem with the advanced connectivity features.
What’s unique about this new generation chipset is it is capable of supporting both mmWave and sub-6 using frequency division duplex as well as time division duplex. In a single chip, the compatibility of supporting both frequency divisions was not possible.
Apart from this, the 5G Modem i.e. Snapdragon X60 supports 5G Voice-over-NR i.e. VoNR. VoNR provides high-quality voice calls with no interruptions. The 3rd generation 5G modem uses Qualcomm’s new QTM535 mmWave antenna module. This antenna module is optimized for high performance within a compact design.
According to Qualcomm, this new generation chipset provides up to 7.5 gigabits per second download speed. The same chipset offers 3 Gbps upload speeds.
If we talk about the availability, the new generation Snapdragon X60 5G modem is expected to be seen in the market from the year 2021. The exact time-frame of its availability is still unknown as there’s no official word from the manufacturer on its availability disclosed.
