Renowned physicist Professor Brian Cox has criticized the lack of evidence supporting extraordinary claims about the existence of aliens made during a recent US senate hearing.
Former military personnel testified before US lawmakers on Wednesday, recounting their firsthand experiences with unidentified flying objects (UFOs) in an attempt to shed light on the US Government’s knowledge of UFO existence.
In his testimony, retired Major David Grusch alleged that the US has been concealing a long-standing program that investigates and reverse-engineers UFOs. He also claimed that the US has likely been aware of non-human activity since the 1930s.
The Pentagon has denied Mr. Grusch’s allegations of a cover-up.
Responding to the hearing, Professor Brian Cox tweeted, “I keep getting asked for my thoughts on the UFO situation in Congress yesterday, so here it is. I watched a few clips and saw individuals making extraordinary claims without presenting extraordinary evidence.”
Despite being open to the possibility of extraterrestrial life, Cox expressed the need to focus on preserving our civilization and not rely on external forces to save us, stating, “It would be fantastic if true… However, as of now, I still feel the responsibility rests on us. So let’s concentrate on not destroying our world instead of hoping that someone will come to our rescue.”
