According to GalaxyClub (via SamMobile), the Galaxy S24 will utilize the same 12MP sensor for the selfie camera as its predecessor, the Galaxy S23. This means that users should not expect significant improvements in selfie quality.
This continuity applies to all variants of the Galaxy S24 – the Galaxy S23, the Galaxy S23 Plus, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It appears that Samsung is opting to maintain the status quo in 2024.
Interestingly, the Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S22 Plus featured a 10MP selfie camera, while the Galaxy S22 Ultra sported a 40MP front camera. However, it seems that Samsung will not be continuing this pattern.
No under-display camera yet
The leak also reveals that the prospect of an under-display camera for the Galaxy S series is unlikely for at least another year. While Samsung has employed this technology in its foldable devices, such as the recent Galaxy Z Fold 4, the standard flagships have not embraced it thus far.
Currently, under-display cameras still do not match the performance and quality of traditional components. As per this source, Samsung aims to minimize the size of the selfie camera cut-out on the front screen.
