The latest Nintendo Direct has just been released, and it was filled with exciting news about Pikmin! We received new information about Pikmin 4 and Nintendo has also quietly launched HD remasters of both Pikmin and Pikmin 2 on the Switch.
The new Pikmin 4 trailer provided insights into the game’s exciting new features. One of the highlights is the introduction of underground dungeons, where players can discover castaways to bring back to their base camp. The base camp itself offers more depth than previous Pikmin games, as players can now train their dog companion, Oatchi, craft useful items, and more. Additionally, players can now embark on challenging nighttime expeditions. While enemies become more aggressive at night, the new Glow Pikmin will be there to aid players. Players will also have to engage in one-on-one “Dandori Battles” with a mysterious individual who resembles Olimar wearing a mask. You can watch the trailer below to see all the exciting new additions.
Pikmin 4 appears to be an ambitious sequel. Here is an official description of the new features showcased in the trailer:
“Welcome to the Rescue Corps. In this game, you play as the newest recruit, customizing your character before joining forces with the capable Rescue Pup Oatchi and the plant-like creatures known as Pikmin. If you’re new to the series, don’t worry – this game is a great entry point for anyone wanting to learn more about Pikmin.
Collect treasures across the planet to repair the Rescue Corps’ spaceship radar and unlock new areas to explore. This includes underground caves with environments vastly different from the surface. Pikmin 4 also introduces Dandori Battles, where the goal is to collect more items than your opponent within a time limit to save the castaway. Additionally, for the first time in the Pikmin series, players can venture out on night expeditions. However, beware as creatures become more aggressive during the night. Thankfully, you will encounter the new Glow Pikmin to aid you.”
Furthermore, as previously mentioned, HD versions of Pikmin 1 and 2 are now available on the Nintendo Switch. Players have the option to purchase the games individually or as a bundle containing both games.
Pikmin 4 will be released on the Nintendo Switch on July 21.
