Phasmophobia Has a List of Swear Words That Will Anger the Ghost

Don’t say these words unless you want to be the ghosts’ next target.

In Kinetic Games’ Phasmophobia the ghost reacts to things that players say over voice chat, this can be them asking questions, stating that they’re scared, and more. However, fans have dug around in the files and discovered a bunch of curse words that apparently anger the ghost more.

Realistically speaking, it’s been said that Kinetic Games would rather players discover the list of phrases and commands that can spark the attention of a ghost. Which makes sense, you wander in a room and randomly ask the ghost where they are, and the light in a nearby bathroom comes on. It has a better feeling than going in with a list of phrases, essentially ruining the fun.

However, according to Steam user Puuyo, they rummaged through the source code of the game and found that there’s a list of naughty words that the ghost reacts to. Players have often wondered if swearing and calling the ghost names is actually enough to cause a spiritual reaction, and this is confirmation that it should in fact work.

As you can see from the list of words above, there are a bunch of expletives that will apparently annoy the ghost. My favorite is Bloody Mary though as that’s a well-known ghost story in which you chant it in a mirror while holding a candle, and the ghost then kills you. The rest are just naughty words I tend to get called by my teammates in Phasmophobia.

I had actually tested some of these out last night with a group of ghost hunters and stood in the kitchen aggressively hurling a few of the above at the ghost, and sure enough, it lobbed some cans at me, then I got killed while cowering in a corner. Whether this is a coincidence or not is another thing, but there are a lot of reports from other players saying they’ve been victims to the ghost hands of death for swearing.

Phasmophobia is available on PC for VR and non-VR users. It’s looking more and more likely that the next update is on its way and should include a bunch of new features for players to enjoy.
