PC Digital Deluxe owners of Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be receiving an early advantage, contrary to previous expectations.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Release Date Update for PC Owners

In exciting news for RPG fans, Larian Studios is preparing to launch the highly anticipated game, Baldur’s Gate 3, earlier than expected. However, PC owners will no longer receive an extended head start as originally planned.

Initially, Larian had intended to offer a 72-hour head start for players who purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition of Baldur’s Gate 3. This Early Access would have allowed them to explore Act 1, which is already available in the current Early Access build but in its 1.0 version. It would have been a significant advantage for many players, as Larian upgraded all Early Access buyers to the Digital Deluxe Edition.

However, due to the release date for the PC version being moved up by nearly a month, there were questions regarding the head start. In a recent community update, Larian confirmed that PC owners will not receive a head start.

“The PC Digital Deluxe Edition does not include a 72-hour head start, which would have essentially made the game’s release date July 31st. Shifting the release date – and thus communication around the Digital Deluxe Editions across PS5 and PC – came with a few complexities that we didn’t manage to communicate very well, so we thought it best to clarify it here, given that a 72-hour head start on PC wouldn’t have been plausible.”

However, PlayStation 5 Digital Deluxe owners will still enjoy a head start. So, console players waiting for the release on September 3 will have a few extra days to catch up with PC players, as opposed to the original September 6 launch date.

Patience is Key

While the lack of an extended head start is disappointing, there is a positive side to the situation. The RPG will be available a month earlier than expected, so three extra days of waiting shouldn’t be too drastic. Furthermore, the absence of a head start could be beneficial for players who have spent a significant amount of time in the Early Access version, as saves from Early Access will not carry over to the official launch.

Moreover, Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3 already offers a substantial amount of content. In the community update, Larian estimates that Act 1 now has roughly 33% more content than what was initially available in Early Access. Additionally, Act 1 represents less than a quarter of the total content available at launch.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is shaping up to be an incredibly immersive experience. Despite the absence of an extended head start, players will still have ample time to delve into the game when it releases on August 3 for PC.
