The demons haunting Patrick Wilson in the highly-anticipated horror sequel, Insidious: The Red Door, get a little too close for comfort as seen in the latest TV spot released by Blumhouse. The fifth installment in the Insidious franchise marks Wilson’s directorial debut, where he returns alongside Rose Byrne as Josh and Renai Lambert. The film takes the franchise back to its roots with a continuation of the first two films, while largely sourcing its scares from the characters’ trauma as opposed to cheap tactics like jump scares.
Wilson explains, “If I’m doing this, it’s going to get ugly for these characters.” The familial trauma is set to take center stage, as the Lamberts return for the first time since 2013, with the franchise’s most famous supernatural villain, the red “Lipstick-Face” demon, also making a comeback. However, while the upcoming film will conclude the family’s story, it won’t be the end of the Insidious franchise, as it will continue via a sixth, spin-off film, Thread: An Insidious Tale, featuring Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani.
Insidious: The Red Door hits theaters on July 7, promising to offer audiences an emotional and terrifying finale that has been ten years in the making.
