Owen Teague Gets Ready for Upcoming ‘Planet of the Apes’ Movie with Assistance from Andy Serkis.

Owen Teague, a rising star in the acting world, is set to direct his first studio film with his involvement in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes – a highly anticipated fourth installment of the Planet of the Apes reboot series. Ahead of the film’s release in 2024, Teague sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss the motion capture process on the project and seek advice from the veteran Planet of the Apes actor, Andy Serkis.

Teague is reportedly playing Caesar’s son, Cornelius, in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which is set to serve as a sequel to 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes, where Serkis starred as the leader of the apes. As filming commenced, Teague revealed that he sought out Serkis’s advice on motion capturing an ape, who provided him with guidance on donning the heavy suit and camera rigging for motion capture. Teague acknowledged Serkis for his inspiration, stating that he was part of the reason he entered the acting world.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes plot details remain under wraps; however, THR revealed that it takes place many years after War. During this time, humans have been reduced to a feral-like existence, while many ape societies, led by an enslaving ape leader, have grown substantially.

Teague also spoke about the director of the film, Wes Ball, known for his work on the Maze Runner trilogy, who helped the actors embody the traits of a primate during filming. Ball provided visualizations for the actors, which enabled them to think and act like apes convincingly.

Joining Teague in the film are Freya Allen, Peter Macon, Eka Darville, Kevin Durand, and William H. Macy. The screenplay is written by Josh Friedman, Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa, and Patrick Aison, with Joe Hartwick Jr. producing for Oddball Entertainment, Silver and Jaffa for Shinbone Productions, and Jason Reed and executive producers Jenno Topping and Peter Chernin for Chernin Entertainment.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set to release on May 24, 2024. Watch the trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes below.
