Overwatch 2’s Battle for Olympus Event Is Now Live, Heroes Fashioned After Greek Myth

The much-anticipated Battle for Olympus limited-time event in Overwatch 2 has officially launched. This exciting update introduces a seasonal mode that features a free-for-all deathmatch game with a twist – seven select Heroes transformed into powerful Greek gods, goddesses, and creatures. Blizzard Entertainment released a trailer prior to the event, teasing the god-like abilities that enhance the champions’ ultimates. Patch notes have now been shared, providing a breakdown of each ability, and a global leaderboard has been introduced to honor the hero with the highest score by immortalizing them with an in-game statue. The event is set to run until January 19.

It is worth noting that Battle for Olympus is essentially the standard deathmatch mode of Overwatch 2, but with a captivating Olympian theme. However, these new effects are limited to this mode alone, and the quick play and competitive segments will still utilize the Heroes’ regular kits. The seven playable heroes in this game mode are Junker Queen, Lucío, Pharah, Ramattra, Reinhardt, Roadhog, and Widowmaker. Each of them possesses “Divine” ultimates that last longer than the standard ones and bring changes to their regular moveset. Additionally, these heroes are named and designed after Greek legends, and players can obtain their corresponding skins by earning coins through completing weekly challenges. Battle for Olympus can be accessed by visiting the Arcade section, in line with previous seasonal events.

One standout transformation is Lúcio as Hermes. Thanks to his incredible speed, his Divine Sound Barrier ultimate lasts for a remarkable 20 seconds. This grants him infinite ammunition, the ability to jump again after wall riding, and a substantial increase in both attack and movement speed. Moreover, his Boop action deals additional damage and stuns enemies if they collide with a wall. It is worth mentioning that Lúcio’s god-like abilities are exclusively advantageous in the deathmatch mode.

Widowmaker takes on the persona of the snake-headed Medusa, fittingly representing her ability to turn enemies who look at her while scoped in into stone. This aligns with the Greek legend of Gorgo, who petrifies those who directly meet her gaze. This ultimate reinforces a high-risk, high-reward playstyle, encouraging players to make enemies aware of their strategic vantage points.

Essentially, Overwatch 2’s Battle for Olympus offers players a God Mode experience, drawing inspiration directly from Greek mythology. Minotaur Reinhardt, for instance, has a Divine ultimate that lasts for an astonishing 20 seconds. During this time, he can restore health by slamming enemies into walls, pin up to three opponents simultaneously, deal increased damage through wall slams, and reduce the cooldown of his charge ability to a mere 0.5 seconds, making him incredibly formidable. Furthermore, Zeus Junker Queen’s Divine Rampage allows her to inflict additional lightning damage with her Scattergun, while Ramattra, the new tank, wields the power of the sea god Poseidon. She can unleash a devastating whirlpool, the Ravenous Vortex, which pulls enemies in and launches them into the air. Additionally, she can shoot powerful water blasts that cause substantial damage.

Roadhog embodies the power of the Cyclops in the Battle for Olympus mode, losing an eye in the process. His Divine Roadhog ability, lasting 15 seconds, significantly enlarges his body, granting a substantial boost of 600 health points and the ability to hurl boulders instead of his usual ultimate fire. His melee attacks now deal five times more damage, and each strike pushes enemies away. Lastly, Hades Pharah gains enhanced mobility during her Rocket Barrage, reducing her vulnerability to stunning or getting killed during the animation. The Divine ultimate also grants healing with each kill and extends its own duration.

The hero with the highest number of eliminations at the end of the Battle for Olympus event will be honored with a statue within the Illios Ruins map, effectively immortalizing their achievement. Additionally, Overwatch 2 features special challenges that unlock new thematic voice lines, player titles, and exciting cosmetics that can be purchased using Overwatch Coins. One such challenge is a checkpoint-based task, offering players the legendary Winged Victory Mercy skin as a rewarding incentive.

Don’t miss out on the thrilling Battle for Olympus event in Overwatch 2, which will captivate players until January 19. This event is available across various platforms including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
