Overwatch 2 has garnered the unfortunate title of being the worst-rated game on Steam, with over 110,000 votes giving it an abysmal overall score of 0.94 out of 10.
Metro discovered that Steam250, a website that calculates game ratings using live reviews from Steam, placed this hero shooter at the very bottom of the list of all games on the platform.
Currently, Overwatch 2 holds a lower standing than other notorious titles such as the free-to-play strategy card game War of the Three Kingdoms, the long-running “early access” god game Godus, the sluggish looter-shooter Redfall, and the Resident Evil spin-off Umbrella Corps.
Less than 10% of reviews for Overwatch 2 are positive as players express their discontent with Blizzard Entertainment’s problematic past, the game’s monetization strategy, and the departure of the original Overwatch experience.
“I was deeply disheartened when Reaper declared ‘BUY, BUY, BUY’ and locked new heroes behind a battle pass, abandoning the Story Mode. Truly the epitome of disappointment,” expressed one reviewer.
Last week, Overwatch 2: Invasion was released, introducing a new hero, a new mode, and three narrative missions centered around the battle between Overwatch and Null Sector. However, interested players must purchase the Invasion Bundle for a minimum of $14.99 in order to access these missions.
This decision upset players who were anticipating a cooperative, story-driven gaming experience, as it was initially canceled in May. Furthermore, the Blizzard Entertainment team confirmed that the next batch of narrative missions will not be released until at least 2024.
In July, approximately 50 employees from Blizzard Entertainment’s esports division were laid off. Despite this, Overwatch League commissioner Sean Miller assured fans that a “revitalized global scene” awaits them in the coming year.
In other gaming news, The Pokémon Company has expressed interest in adjusting the frequency of Pokémon releases to prioritize quality and better cater to their fans.
