The Big Picture

  • Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has generated over $200 million globally within just five days of its release, proving to be a massive success at the box office.
  • The film’s achievement can be attributed to the “Barbenheimer” effect, as well as Christopher Nolan’s ability to attract audiences to theaters with his unique storytelling.
  • Despite its long runtime and logistical challenges, Oppenheimer is consistently selling out screenings and has already doubled its production budget.

After exceeding expectations on its opening weekend, director Christopher Nolan‘s latest film Oppenheimer continues to dominate the global box office. In just five days, the epic biographical drama has surpassed the $200 million mark worldwide and shows no signs of slowing down.

The movie has already grossed $95 million domestically and is on track to exceed $100 million. Additionally, it has earned $114 million from international territories across 70 countries, resulting in a total worldwide gross of $209 million. Based on the life of the controversial “father of the atomic bomb,” J. Robert Oppenheimer, the film faced stiff competition from Greta Gerwig‘s comic masterpiece Barbie during its opening weekend. Both films garnered significant attention from fans leading up to their release, ultimately contributing to their record-breaking global success.

Barbie debuted with a staggering $162 million at the domestic box office and has already surpassed $360 million worldwide, with further growth expected. In contrast, Oppenheimer earned $82 million domestically and $180 million globally, significantly exceeding initial expectations of $50 million and $100 million, respectively, for its opening weekend.
