Arc System Works has confirmed the upcoming release of River City: Rival Showdown for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and PC this year.
Arc System Works recently announced their plans to bring River City: Rival Showdown to PlayStation, PC, and the Nintendo Switch in October. This release aims to reintroduce the beloved River City Ransom series to a modern audience by faithfully reconstructing the original 3DS game from scratch. The game is set to be released on October 12th, but in the meantime, enjoy the trailer and details below!
“The original 3DS version of River City: Rival Showdown was highly acclaimed upon its release in 2016. Arc System Works not only brings back this fan-favorite game for current consoles, but also enhances it with modern features to offer players the ultimate 2D action game experience. The updated 2023 edition includes all the updates found in the 3DS version: an expanded main game with more settings and storylines, improved graphics and gameplay, and a brand-new prequel story mode to explore after completing the main story’s mystery!”
- Action-Packed Story of Conspiracy and Mystery: “Hot Blooded Story” – Kunio discovers that Mami, the girlfriend of his rival Riki, has been kidnapped following a mysterious attack. The game follows the events leading up to Mami’s kidnapping, as Kunio and Riki join forces with their friends from Nekketsu High School to unravel the mystery and find Mami. Their search takes them to Reiho Academy, led by “Yamada,” where an intense battle begins…
- Free Scenario System with Multiple Endings: Players must navigate through different events and battles to uncover the conspiracy surrounding “Yamada” and discover the truth. The story is experienced non-linearly over a four-day period, with events from the first three in-game days influencing the events and endings on the final day.
- Item Collection & Special Abilities: As the story unfolds, players can visit “convenience stores” to purchase recovery items, “public baths” to replenish HP and SP, and “thrift stores” to acquire equipment with special abilities. Special Moves have also been improved to deliver more spectacular combat, while experience gained in battle can be used to enhance character stats.
- New Prequel Story Mode: “Cold-Blooded Hardcore Yamada-kun” – After completing the main story mode, players can delve into this additional mode where they take control of the villainous “Yamada” in a prequel to the incident. Uncover the dark machinations behind the kidnapping and explore “Yamada’s” ambitions and motives.
