Obsidian Entertainment Is Working on a New Project Other Than Avowed

It seems there are more ongoing projects in Obsidian Entertainment as the director behind Pillars of Eternity teases an unannounced project.

It seems other than Grounded, Avowed, and the sequel for The Outer Worlds, there’s a new unannounced project going on at Obsidian Entertainment.

Josh Sawyer, the director behind Pillars of Eternity series at Obsidian Entertainment, has recently revealed via his Twitter account that he is directing his own project in the studio which is not Avowed. Based on what we know so far, the studio is currently working on Grounded and Avowed as two officially announced projects, with the former currently available in the early access phase and the latter releasing in an unannounced date.

Other than the two titles above, Obsidian Entertainment has already confirmed that a sequel to The Outer Worlds will be developed in the future, which would likely be directed with Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Cain, the creators of the series.

Given the facts above, it seems Sawyer is working on a project that is yet to be revealed. Regarding the success of the Pillars of Eternity franchise, it’s not surprising to see Obsidian Entertainment is investing in another entry from the series for the future.

After all, Pillars of Eternity features a great and detailed universe, and Avowed is going to be the first game from a new IP that’s set in this rich world. Previously, it was assumed that Sawyer will be supervising the Avowed project, but now it’s clear that his busy directing his own project at the studio.

Since the time Obsidian acquired by Microsoft, the studio saw a huge increase in the number of employees which made it possible for them to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Recently, the studio launched Grounded for Xbox One and PC, a low-budget survival RPG game from a small team at Obsidian Entertainment, which reached over one million players worldwide in less than a week.
