Nokia 1 with Android Oreo Go Edition programme May be Launched in March


It appears that HMD Global is working on its next entry-level Nokia-branded smartphone, the Nokia 1. The smartphone will be launch as part of Google’s Android Go program in March, which means it will be available in emerging markets first and foremost.

A Russian journalist, Eldar Murtazin has tweeted that, HMD Global is working on an entry-level Nokia-branded smartphone which will be meant for emerging markets. Additionally, he revealed the key specs, pricing and launch date of Nokia 1 smartphone.

According to the tweet, the upcoming Nokia 1 runs on Android Oreo (Go Edition) and sports a HD (1280×720 pixels) display. Nokia 1 will pack 1GB RAM and 8GB expandable storage which could be further expanded via microSD card. While the processor and camera configuration is not mentioned by Murtazin. As for pricing, he reveals that device could be priced at 5990 Rubbles ($100/ Rs 6,550 approx).

Android Go was first announced at Google I/O 2017, Android Go is meant for emerging markets where people barely afford a budget-friendly smartphone. It specifically designed for entry-level devices with no more than 1GB of RAM. It aims to provide the latest Android updates to the masses and it will be available as a part of Android 8.1 release.
