Ninja Theory, the Developer of Hellblade, Acquired by Xbox for $117 Million

Microsoft has recently acquired Ninja Theory, making a deal worth $117 million, as stated in the FTC filings. The ongoing FTC v. Microsoft case has shed light on Microsoft’s plans for potential acquisitions.

Internal emails revealed in the FTC filings showcased Microsoft’s discussions on various studios and publishers that could be potential targets for acquisitions. Among the candidates were Bungie and Sega. The internal email discussing the acquisition of Sega featured a list of past transactions on page 10, which included acquisitions by Sony, Microsoft, and Electronic Arts.

Within this list, Ninja Theory’s acquisition for $117 million was highlighted, along with the public announcement date of June 10, 2018. This announcement coincided with Microsoft’s reveal at E3 2018, where they also announced the acquisitions of Turn 10, Playground Games, Compulsion Games, and Undead Labs.

The highly anticipated game from Ninja Theory, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, is scheduled for release in 2024.
