NightWare app: Apple Watch might help you end your future nightmares related to PTSD

Apple Watch may help end your nightmares that’s causing sleep disorders. Apple Watch with the help of a recently approved app might help people having nightmares due to PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). An App called NightWare received approval from the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Friday.
The app system uses the sensors on the smartwatch to monitor user’s heart rate and body movement during the sleep and sleep pattern. The app collects data from the smartwatch and send it to a server which compares it with the baseline sleep profile of the users based on the algorithm and detects any irregularities in the sleep pattern in real-time and notifies the user with a shuttle vibration that is meant only to break the nightmare pattern and not the sleep.
FDA announcement has clearly mentioned that the NightWare is a prescription-only app and users will need to consult their physician and get the prescription to be able to use the app. FDA also mentions that “NightWare isn’t a standalone and independent tool and should be used in conjunction with medication and therapy. In fact, NightWare isn’t even something you can simply download from the App Store and requires a prescription to get.”
The NightWarer app also comes with several other caveats and restrictions such as the people with other sleep related disorders like sleepwalking or violence during nightmares. Also, the watch used with the NighWare app should be a seperate app and is not recommended to be used while doing other activities such as reading, watching TV, etc.
