The game follows the adventures of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, who find themselves unexpectedly transported to a strange Metaverse. This new realm is ruled by a military group called the Legionnaires, led by Marie. Marie manages to brainwash all the Thieves except for Joker and Morgana, but they are rescued by Erina, the leader of the Rebel Corps. Erina reveals that they are in a place called The Kingdoms and enlists Joker and Morgana’s help in uncovering the secrets of this foreign realm and rescuing their brainwashed friends.

Persona 5 Tactica introduces new gameplay mechanics. Taking cover is now essential for surviving battles, as it reduces damage from enemies and can even block their attacks. The battle system includes a unique twist on elemental weaknesses, allowing players to use specific attacks to inflict additional damage or impair enemies temporarily.
