Newly-Named EA Studio Cliffhanger Games Developing Black Panther Game

EA has recently announced a partnership with Marvel Games to develop an exciting Black Panther game. The game will be created by a new studio called Cliffhanger Games.

According to the blog post introducing the game, it will be a single-player, third-person title. The main objective of Cliffhanger Games is to create a vast and interactive world that allows players to step into the role of Wakanda’s protector, the Black Panther. Leading the Cliffhanger Games team is Kevin Stephens, who previously served as the studio head for Monolith Productions, known for their work on Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. The team also includes developers who have worked on renowned games like God of War, Call of Duty, and Halo Infinite.

Stephens stated, “We are committed to delivering fans an authentic and definitive Black Panther experience. Our goal is to provide players with more agency and control over their narrative than ever before in a story-driven video game. Wakanda is a rich superhero sandbox, and our mission is to create an epic world for players who share our love for Black Panther and want to explore the wonders of Wakanda.”

Although it was not named at the time, Cliffhanger Games has been in the works for a while, with Kevin Stephens forming the studio in partnership with EA in 2021.

This Black Panther game is the second of three titles to be released by EA and Marvel. In October 2022, the companies announced a three-game deal based on Marvel’s comics. While they revealed the development of an Iron Man game by Motive Studio, known for their work on the Dead Space remake, the third title is yet to be announced.

It is worth noting that another Black Panther game is in development, featuring an earlier version of the character alongside Captain America during World War 2. This game is being created by Skydance New Media, with Amy Hennig, known for her work on Uncharted, leading the project.

As of now, a release date and platforms for Cliffhanger Games’ Black Panther game have not been confirmed. However, based on previous announcements, it is likely to be available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
