New WhatsApp Update Adds iPhone XS Max Support, Hints at Future Dark Mode

WhatsApp has yesterday released an update that adds official support for iPhone XS Max’s larger display, some other improvements and new hints about the future of the messaging platform was also revealed.

This update came after the problem about WhatsApp’s display issue has surfaced. As per the issue, the interface of WhatsApp didn’t scale properly on the 2,688 x 1,242 resolution screen of iPhone XS Max. The update fixed the issue, and what more, the new UI now takes a full advantage at the larger OLED display.

Aside from that, some brand new features have also been released, some improvements are also implemented to provide a better user experience all throughout the application. The update has also introduced a redesigned contextual action menu for message bubbles in the chat threads.

Previously, a long press on a message will show a horizontal popup menu similar to iOS’ feature. But now, the new vertical menu masks the background to highlight the selected message and shows more options in the first popup. The arrow button revealing additional actions was also replaced by the ellipsis.

The consecutive voice messages will now play in sequence, this is a better option for the users instead of taping on each message to play.  A new reply options were also added into the new updated. Reply to user status messages, with documents, voice messages, locations and vCards being added to the existing text, images, GIFs and videos is now available.

In addition to these improvements and newly introduced features, WABetaInfo has also discovered an alpha code in the latest version. This code hints new features for the applications such as an optional Dark Mode and a capability to preview videos in WhatsApp notifications.
