The New Samsung Flip Phone with Dual Super AMOLED Displays Launched in China


On Thursday, Samsung has launched a new flip phone with dual screens called SM-G9298 aka Leader 8 exclusively for Chinese market. The phone is listed on the Samsung’s official Chinese website but Pricing and availability has not been disclosed.  The phone will only come in Black colour, and is likely to go on sale in the near future.

Samsung targets the clamshell at the premium segment of the market. This high-end Android flip phone is made of Aviation-Grade Aluminum. The clamshell is draped in black metal with accents of gold. The top shell has the SIM slot, while the bottom shell has the volume rocker on the right and power button on the left. On the inside, it has a physical alpha-numeric keypad with d-pad navigator and other shortcut keys.

Coming on specifications, the Samsung Leader 8 Runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and sports two 4.2” full-HD (1920×1080 pixels) Super AMOLED displays, on the outside and one on the inside. The smartphone is powered by a 2.15GHz quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor coupled with Adreno 530 GPU. It offers 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card.

In terms of camera, the Samsung Leader 8 features a 12MP rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, LED flash and auto focus. It can record 4K UHD videos at 30fps. On the front, it bears a 5MP front facing camera with f/1.9 aperture for better low light capturing. The device is powered by a 2300mAh battery which claims to offer 238 hours of standby time and wireless charging support.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 4G, micro USB, USB 2.0, Bluetooth v4.1, NFC, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, and GPS. Sensors onboard include accelerometer, barometer, a fingerprint sensor, geomagnetic, Hall sensor, heart rate sensor, and gyroscope. Additional features include Samsung Pay, S Voice, a multi-function configurable hotkey, and Secure Folder. The device measures 130.2 x 62.6 x 15.9mm and weighs 235grams.
