New Analysis Reveals: Final Fantasy XVI Visuals Nearly Match the CGI of FFXIII, Falling Just Short

Although Final Fantasy XVI may have some inconsistencies in its visuals, particularly in Performance Mode, there’s no denying that it can look absolutely stunning at times. While the game may not reach the same level of visual quality as the breathtaking CGI sequences seen in Final Fantasy XIII, it certainly comes close.

In a recently shared video, Digital Foundry compared the real-time visuals of Final Fantasy XVI with the CGI sequences of Final Fantasy XIII, showcasing how character rendering, shadows, and environmental design are on par, if not even better, in the latest installment of the series. However, it’s important to note that FFXIII’s CGI sequences still hold the edge when it comes to image quality. Nonetheless, the fact that FFXVI’s visuals are not significantly worse than CGI sequences from a game released nearly 15 years ago suggests that the day when real-time graphics surpass CGI is not too far off in the future.

Despite some technical issues, such as uneven performance that has yet to be addressed in the latest patch, Final Fantasy XVI is a highly worthwhile purchase for both fans of the series and enthusiasts of character action games, as emphasized by Kai in his review.

Final Fantasy XVI sets a new benchmark for Japanese role-playing games. While the RPG elements may adhere to Square-Enix’s standards, it is the captivating narrative and engaging gameplay that exceed all expectations. What begins as a tale of kingdom-wide deception and devastation ultimately leads to a forever altered world, and it is up to the player, assuming the roles of Clive Rosfield and Ifrit, to guide the story to its conclusion.

Final Fantasy XVI is now available on PlayStation 5.
