Motorola Edge, Motorola Edge+ With Curved 90Hz OLED Display, Triple Rear Cameras Launched: Price, Specifications

After a series of rumors and leaks, Motorola has finally announced its two mid-range smartphones – Motorola Edge and Motorola Edge+. Both of the phones feature a curved display with hole-punch design and triple rear cameras. They also come with dual stereo speakers tuned by Waves and have also added a range of new customizations and edge screen features to the phones’ stock Android 10 interface. Since both of these phones are from the same series, they share some common specs and features with some notable differences.  Let’s take a closer look at each of these phones.

Starting with the base version, the Motorola Edge features a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display that has a refresh rate of 90Hz. The display has waterfall-style curved edges on either side. It has an IP54 certified build and also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor. 

The curved edges on the display have a few software add-ons. One can double-tap on them to open apps or shortcuts. The edge can also be used to display virtual buttons in games that can be enabled/disabled manually. Motorola also lets one swipe down on the curve to access the notification tray. There’s also a My UXHub that one can access to change the custom fonts as well as other theme elements.

Under the hood, this smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC which is paired with Adreno 620 GPU to handle graphics. It also has up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded up to 1TB further via an external microSD card.

In the camera department, the Motorola Edge sports a triple-rear camera setup that includes a 64-megapixel primary camera with f/1.8 aperture and 0.8-micron pixel size, a 16-megapixel wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture and 117-degree field of view. There is also an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with an f/2.4 aperture and also has a 2x optical zoom. Additionally, you will get a ToF sensor on the back. At the front, there is a 25-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

Apart from this, the Motorola Edge runs on the latest Android 10. Connectivity options on the phone include 5G, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS, AGPS, LTEPP, SUPL, GLONASS, Galileo, and Beidou. Sensors on the Motorola Edge include an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity, ambient light, and sensor hub. Finally, the Motorola Edge is fuelled by a 4,500mAh battery with support for 18W TurboPower charging tech, but there is no wireless charging support.

On the other hand, the Motorola Edge+ features a curved 6.7-inch full-HD+ OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ certification. It also has an in-display fingerprint sensor for authentication.

Under the hood, this phone is powered by top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC which is paired with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM. For media and storage, the phone comes with up to 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage which can not be expanded further.

In the imaging department, Motorola Edge+ also sports a triple rear camera setup that includes a 108-megapixel primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, OIS support, and 0.8-micron pixel size, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture and 117-degree field of view. Lastly, there is also an 8-megapixel telephoto camera that comes with OIS support and provides a 3x optical zoom output. Just like the base version, there is also a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor. At the front, there is a 25-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 aperture and 0.9-micron pixel size. The primary camera of the phone supports 6K recording at 30fps. 

Apart from this, the Motorola Edge+ also runs on the latest Android 10. Connectivity options on the phone include 5G, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax (Wi-Fi 6), GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BDS. Sensors packed inside the phone include an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity, ambient light, sensor hub, and barometer. Lastly, Motorola Edge+ is fuelled by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging.

As for the price, the price of Motorola Edge is still not revealed by the company. On the other hand, the Motorola Edge+ is priced at $999 (approx Rs. 76,400). 

As for the availability, the Motorola Edge will be available in Solar Black and Midnight Magenta color variants, while the Motorola Edge+ will be available in Smoky Sangria and Thunder Grey color options. The Motorola Edge+ will go on sale from May 14 via Verizon, while the Motorola Edge is due to go on sale ‘this summer’.
