Rockstar Games has its stronghold in the modding community for quite some time now. There are thousands of gameplay and visual mods for Grand Theft Auto V, and its online counterpart ‘GTA Online’ is no exception.
Since its release back in 2015 for Windows, GTA Online has gained massive popularity among PC gamers thanks to Rockstar’s frequent content updates.
However, it wasn’t always like this. Even after Rockstar’s effort to fix the server issues, repetitive gameplay, and game-breaking bugs, the dying player base was becoming more apparent to the developers.
Soon, small groups of modders started to work on several community-driven modification projects with an objective to revive GTA Online. It became a reality faster than they expected. Because of the customization capabilities of Rockstar’s proprietary RAGE engine, modders managed to implement a new in-game online multiplayer framework. After that, dedicated GTA Online servers were introduced with new game modes, as well as updated AI, characters, guns, vehicles, and many more.
Now that Rockstar’s GTA Online has seen significant improvements in terms of content expansion updates, popular GTA Online mods like FiveM and NoPixelRP still has a respectable player base. GTA RP (role-playing) streams from famous Twitch streamers get massive amounts of views as well.
If you own a legit copy of Grand Theft Auto V, continue reading this guide to learn more about two of the most popular GTA online multiplayer mods and how to install them.
FiveM is one of the first multiplayer mods for GTA Online, which is still recommended by players because of its allowance for both server and client-side modifications. Custom server owners can not only use custom maps, weapons, and character models but also make their servers open to 128 players. In comparison, GTA Online allows up to 30 players on a single server.
As FiveM uses the stock GTA:O network code, you won’t encounter any desync or disconnection issues while playing on a FiveM server. It also makes FiveM a safe multiplayer mod so that players don’t get banned for playing on custom GTA Online servers.
Unlike other mods, It is pretty easy for players to install the FiveM multiplayer mod. It comes in a standalone client package, which doesn’t interfere with the game files or the Rockstar Launcher.
- Visit fivem.net from a web browser on your PC.
- On the FiveM webpage, click Download client.
- Click “Sure, I agree!” to agree to FiveM’s terms of service.
- The FiveM installer should start downloading automatically. If not, then you can manually click the download link shown on the webpage.

After a successful installation, a shortcut to FiveM launcher will be created on your desktop. Simply double-click to launch it.

On the left side of the screen, you will find server tags like cars, cops, roleplay, jobs, and more. Joining a server is as easy as selecting it and clicking Connect, which will then launch GTA Online automatically.
NoPixel RP Mod
If you have experience in role-playing, then the NoPixel RP is one of the best GTA Online multiplayer mods. It is extremely popular among Twitch streamers, including Summit1G, Lirik, Greek, Forsen, and many more.
Players spawn as a random character starting from a drug kingpin to a police officer. As players join in a role-playing server, the rules are stringent, and common mistakes such as behaving immature or breaking characters are punishable offenses.
The popularity also makes it quite tricky for regular players to join NoPixel RP servers. You must register for a NoPixel account, then fill up this application form and wait for the approval. Based on your answers to the questions asked in the application form, the moderators of NoPixel RP servers will decide your character in-game.
Compared to FiveM, NoPixel supports up to 32 players in a single server. If you want to join one, then you have to wait in a queue until someone disconnects.
Installing NoPixel RP
NoPixel has a standalone launcher for RP servers. If you manage to get an approval, you can download the launcher from here.
Installing the launcher is pretty straightforward and doesn’t require any setup. You can connect to an RP server directly from the server browser in the launcher. Alternatively, you can join NoPixel servers from FiveM.
