Microsoft Now Protects Office 365 Users Against ‘reply All’ Email Storms

Microsoft is rolling out a new reply-all protection feature for Office 365 and Exchange Online. This feature is specially designed to prevent email storms.

Email storms is a very common issue where hundreds or thousands of people start replying to an email thread after someone forgot to BCC everyone. Sometimes, this can be frustrating because you get tons of emails on your mailbox which are of no use for you.

This new protection feature will initially help large companies by blocking replies if there are 10 “reply all” messages sent to over 5,000 people within an hour. If this happens, the system will automatically block further replies for four hours and tell users to give a break.

The software giant hopes to tweak the feature so that it can accommodate smaller organizations, let administrators customize the defense mechanism, and send notifications if a storm arrives.

As mentioned, this feature is currently rolled out for large organizations only. In case, if you are a part of a mid-sized business, you might need to wait for a while to get this feature.
