Microsoft Event 2019: New Surface Duo phone, Surface Neo tablet, Surface Earbuds announced to be launched in 2020
Microsoft had taken a pretty exciting Surface event on Wednesday where it unveiled a bunch of new Surface devices with some of the devices that weren’t expected by the company at the event. Although leaks revealed most of the details about the upcoming devices, Microsoft managed to keep both of its foldable devices – Surface Neo and Duo in a tight lid. Both of these devices are first hardware from the company that features dual-screen that runs on an entirely new OS and UI.
One of the most surprising elements of this event was the Microsoft Surface Duo – the company’s first foldable phone with dual screens that are connected by a hinge. Microsoft eventually gave up making phones after its troubled 2014 purchase of phone giant Nokia for more than $7 billion.
This time, Microsoft says its innovations, like the dual-screen folding display and exclusive technology, are built for the Google Android software that powers the gadget, which will help make the difference. However, we will have a better view of this device when it launches in 2020. Let’s take a look at each of the devices and hardware that are scheduled to launch in 2020.
Microsoft Surface Duo
Microsoft launched its first-ever foldable smartphone that features dual-screens. The Surface Duo will have two 5.6-inch displays that expand to an 8.3-inch device. Unlike previous smartphones from Microsoft that uses Windows as its operating system, the company has chosen Google’s Android as the OS for Surface Duo. Microsoft said that it would be released in time for the holidays in 2020.
Microsoft Surface Neo
The all-new Microsoft Surface Neo is equipped with dual 9-inch displays. The dual-screen is attached with 360-degree hinges, and the displays have more than 60 micro coaxial cables running between them. The Surface Neo weighs 1.4 pounds and is only 5.6mm thick – a super-svelte profile achieved by using the thinnest LCDs ever created. Just like Duo, Surface Neo will also be released in time for the holidays in 2020.
Windows 10 X
The all-new Surface Neo is running on the completely new Windows 10 X – a new version of Microsoft Windows 10 that is specially designed and optimized for dual-screen devices.
“It’s a new expression of Windows 10 that we’ve been designing and building for the last couple of years, with hundreds of engineers and designers at Microsoft,” said Carmen Zlateff, Microsoft Program Manager for Experiences and Devices. “Our goal is to fuel a new era of mobile productivity and creativity across two screens.”
After the launch of Surface noise-cancelling headphones that were released last year, Microsoft has announced the true-wireless Surface Earbuds. There are two mics embedded in each bud, and it comes with 24 hours of battery life. They also feature touch controls and integration with Microsoft Office apps.
Surface Earbuds will be released in time for the holidays for $249.
