Microsoft Announces Redesigned Icons for Office and Windows 10 Apps

Microsoft is overhauling the Office icons, and this change is included in Microsoft’s larger focus on the design for several Office applications. The Office icons will get a new look after about half a decade. In the announcement regarding the new Office icons, Microsoft also provided some insight into a newer and more vibrant look for Windows 10.

The MS Office icons have been quite plain and traditional, to say the least. However, newly refurbished Office icons will be rolling out in the upcoming months.

Rather than neat and clean edges, every icon will have a unique frame to symbolize its particular role. The icon of Excel will be outlined in a rectangle to exhibit worksheets. The icon of PowerPoint will consist of a circular pie chart.

The icons that will be getting a makeover include those for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Excel, Skype, and Outlook. While the basic color schemes of the logos will remain unchanged, the colors will get more polished and modernized.

This icon update was last witnessed in the year 2013. Microsoft stated that the concept behind these updates is to exhibit the development that Microsoft Office is now less of a productivity toolset, and more of an assortment of cloud-based services people access from an array of gadgets.

As for Windows 10, the icons of the stock apps will also receive a major overhaul. The Photos app icon will transform to the boring white mountains silhouette in the green background to a new round edged blue and white ombre icon.

The File Explorer icon will also receive some tweaks in its design. The new icon will no longer contain the blue metal holder. The icons for apps like News, Calendar and Calculator, will also be modified and changed. Stay tuned with TechnoCodex for more updates.
