Meizu 17 may sport round-shaped quad-camera module, reveals patent filing

Meizu 17 is the latest flagship from Meizu to be launched in the coming months. It is the first 5G smartphone from the company. Meizu 17 will be launching as a successor of Meizu 16s which was launched earlier in April last year. So, most probably, the company will launch the Meizu 17 in the second quarter of 2020.

In June 2019, the company filed a patent with the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) in China. The patent application was recently approved through which a new round-shaped camera design has been revealed. Since then, it is being rumored that Meizu 17 will launch with the same round-shaped camera module.

As can be seen in the patent documents, the circular camera module has four lenses that are arranged symmetrically with an LED flash at the center. Shown below are some of the fan-made renders of the alleged Meizu 17 with the new round-shaped camera setup.

Meizu 17 render

Until now, Meizu smartphones were launched with a vertical camera module. If this patent comes into real, this would be the company’s first phone to arrive with a completely fresh camera design.  The white render seems to showcase the same camera design that has appeared in the patent filing.
