Although Marvel’s Avengers will still be supported and updated, a next-gen version of the game won’t be arriving any time soon
The launch of Marvel’s Avengers next-gen version has been delayed to the ever-vague timeframe of “next year,” according to a community update from developer Crystal Dynamics.
This update, posted on the official Square Enix website, begins like any other blog post for a game. Crystal Dynamics expresses its appreciation for fans of the game that have continued playing this far out from release, and as a bonus is sending out a “digital thank-you bundle” with a bunch of credits, units, upgrade modules and DNA keys. The post then describes future plans for Marvel’s Avengers, including the addition of accessibility features like a high contrast mode and a ping system, as well as other quality of life changes, like offscreen and ranged enemy attack indicators.
Besides all this good news is the delay of the game’s next-gen version, as well as a delay for the release of Kate Bishop and Hawkeye. “We’ve also made the decision to shift out PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S launch to next year to ensure that we give our team the time to deliver a next-gen experience showcasing all that his game is meant to be,” reads the post.
For current owners of Marvel’s Avengers on consoles, this shouldn’t be too impactful. Besides not having access to new content, the game will continue to be updated and will even be playable via backwards compatibility on next-gen consoles. Playing the game like this just requires using your physical disk with a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S or redownloading the game, and will deliver a next-gen experience with higher framerates and faster loading times. People playing Marvel’s Avengers on next-gen consoles via backwards compatibility will also be able to play co-op with their friends on current-gen consoles and will have all their progress carried over.
