A video of a man’s unusual way of charging his Apple Watch device has gone viral on TikTok.
The clip was posted by @lil_ninski99 and has had over 797,000 views since it was shared on April 21.
A voice in the clip says: “My boyfriend’s Apple Watch is charging on his wrist.” The footage shows a man wearing the Apple Watch, which shows the time and the charging sign on its screen.
“Why is it charging on your wrist, babe?” the voice asks, before saying: “Show me your mechanism.”
A hand is later seen pulling up the sleeve of the man’s shirt which shows a charging cord extending from the watch and “going all the way up his shirt,” as noted by the voice in the video. The man is shown flashing a thumbs-up gesture to the camera before the video ends.
A caption shared with the post reads: “It’s actually pretty smart, he said it didn’t bother him.”
As creative as the man’s charging system may be, the Apple website advises placing your charger or charging cable on “a flat surface” and “in a well-ventilated area.”
“You can charge your Apple Watch in a flat position with its band open, or on its side,” the company says.
The post comes as the global smartwatch market, valued to be $30,434.1 million in 2021, is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 8.2 percent from 2022 to 2030, according to a report from Grand View Research, a market research and consulting firm headquartered in San Francisco.
“The market is anticipated to witness a surge in adoption owing to the growing inclination for fitness tracking and health monitoring features,” the report said.
The Apple Watch was found to be the market leader in the U.S. for smartwatches and fitness trackers, according to a 2021 global consumer survey by Statista, the market research and data platform. Nearly half of consumers who said they owned one of these two devices said they had an Apple Watch, followed by Fitbit and Samsung, the survey found.
‘Quite Smart’
TikTok users were impressed by the Apple Watch hack in the viral post.
User chase wrote: “That’s genius,” and XIII said: “That’s actually quite smart.”
User @emsadventures95 wrote: “That’s such a good idea, it does so quick during hikes.”
TeccaN9na noted: “The amount of times I’ve forgotten my watch on the charger when I run out the door to go to work. this is so smart lol.”
Others were less convinced, such as Shiva who asked: “Whyy??? The watch could last 2 days tho.”
Esmee Snoek asked: “Doesn’t that stop it from reading heart rate?”
Rebecca T noted: “How hot does it get though,” and the original poster replied: “He never complained.”
