Major Patch for Diablo 4 Introduces Significant Changes and Fixes

The highly anticipated moment for Diablo 4 players has finally arrived. Although it’s not yet the launch of Season of the Malignant, the pre-season patch is just as big. Patch 1.1.0a, which is the largest update in terms of size and number of changes, has been released on all platforms. Instead of providing a comprehensive list of patch notes, we will focus on highlighting the changes that will have the greatest impact on most players.

To start with the new content, 1.1.0a introduces six Unique items and seven Legendary Aspects. These items are now available in the game for all players. If you play after the patch release, you have the opportunity to acquire them, and they may drop for you while you are within their range. Here are the new items:

– Ahavarion Spear of Lycander (Uber Unique Staff – World Tier 4): Gives you a random Shrine effect for 10-20 seconds after killing an Elite enemy. Can only occur once every 30 seconds.
– Azurewrath (Unique Sword, Barbarian): Lucky Hit – Your Core Skills have a 20% chance to Freeze enemies for 3 seconds and deal Cold damage to them.
– Fleshrender (Unique One-Hand Mace, Druid): Debilitating Roar and Blood Howl deal damage to Nearby Poisoned enemies.
– Lidless Wall (Unique Shield, Necromancer): Lucky Hit – While you have an active Bone Storm, hitting an enemy outside of a Bone Storm has a chance to spawn an additional Bone Storm at their location.
– Eaglehorn (Unique Bow, Rogue): Penetrating Shot has a chance to fire an arrow that bounces off walls and scenery. Hitting enemies from behind with Penetrating Shot makes them Vulnerable.
– The Oculus (Unique Wand, Sorcerer): Gain the effect of the Teleport Enchantment for free. When you Evade using Teleport Enchantment, you are taken to a random location.

As for the Legendary Aspects:

– Audacity (Utility Aspect): Stuns at least 5 close enemies for 2-4 seconds. Can only occur once every 20 seconds.
– Craven (Mobility Aspect): Gain increased Movement Speed when moving away from Slowed or Chilled enemies.
– Ancestral Charge (Offensive Aspect, Barbarian): Charge calls forth 4 Ancients who also Charge, dealing damage.
– Subterranean (Offensive Aspect, Druid): Poison Creeper’s active also casts Landslide in a circle around you. Earth Skills deal increased damage to Poisoned enemies.
– Gore Quills (Offensive Aspect, Necromancer): Blood Lance will consume Blood Orbs to conjure lances from them. Each additional Blood Lance deals increased damage and prioritizes targeting un-lanced enemies.
– Pestilent Points (Offensive Aspect, Rogue): Every third cast of Puncture is Poison Imbued with increased potency.
– Searing Wards (Offensive Aspect, Sorcerer): After spending Mana, your next Firewall is free to cast and will destroy incoming Small Missiles.

In addition to the new items, patch 1.1.0a brings significant changes to gameplay. Altars of Lilith unlocks, map discovering, and fog of war clearing are now account-wide, providing a streamlined experience for all future characters, including seasonal characters. Silent Chests now offer improved loot quality, eliminating the frustration of low-tier drops. Melee players will also benefit from reduced monster movement during combat, resulting in less chasing. The patch also introduces DualSense Edge controller support for PC players.

For World Tier 2 players, there’s good news as bonus gold has been increased from 15% to 20%, and monsters now drop 15% more items. While there are no specific changes for World Tier 3 and 4, Blizzard has adjusted enemy scaling in those tiers. Enemies will now fall behind player level up to a maximum of five levels. Additionally, the XP gained from completing Whispers in World Tier 3 and 4 has been significantly increased.

However, there are some changes that may disappoint certain players. The calculation of bonus XP has been altered, with a 1.5% bonus per level added, capping at 10 levels above the player’s own. This change is aimed at reducing XP farming in groups. Helltide has also become more challenging, with monsters now three levels above the player’s level. The cost to open the Tortured Gift of Mysteries chest in Helltide has increased to 250 Aberrant Cinders.

These are just some of the notable changes in patch 1.1.0a. For a comprehensive list of all the changes, you can refer to the official patch notes on Blizzard’s blog. Season of the Malignant will commence on July 20th, so get ready for an exciting new chapter in Diablo 4.
