Like Halo before it, Forza Motorsport can’t justify splitscreen at launch

Unfortunately, the highly anticipated game Forza Motorsport will not feature splitscreen co-op at launch. Creative director Chris Esaki revealed this news during a recent Forza Monthly Twitch stream on the official channel. Esaki also mentioned that spectator mode and certain multiplayer modes that allow racing against AI will also be unavailable at launch. According to Esaki, these features did not align with the game’s intended racing experience.

Esaki explained that the exclusion of splitscreen is due to the game’s advanced graphical features and rendering engine, making it challenging to implement. However, there is potential for these features to be added later.

Originally set to release in the spring, Forza Motorsport will now launch on October 10. Another drawback of the game is that it requires an always-online connection, meaning the career mode cannot be played without internet access.

It is reminiscent of Halo Infinite’s omission of splitscreen campaign co-op, which was ultimately canceled. While it’s uncertain if Forza Motorsport will follow suit, the current information suggests that splitscreen won’t be available at launch.
