LG V30 and V30+ Starts Getting Android 8.0 Oreo Update


LG has started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the LG V30 and V30+ smartphones. In the first phase, the update is available in Korea, but and it is expected to arrive in more regions soon.

The Android 8.0 update brings all the Oreo features to the LG V30 and V30+. The features include Picture in Picture (PiP) mode – It allows you to miniaturize a YouTube video feed or a video call on Hangouts or Duo into the corner of your screen so you can carry on with other tasks simultaneously. It also gives faster boot time and Restricts background activities. Google has finally introduced rounder face emoticons for Android Oreo and added 60+ new emojis. Other features include installation of apps via APK, notification dots, Wide-gamut colour for apps, Snoozing individual notification, Adaptive icons, Keyboard navigation, WebView enhancements and much more.

Talking about specifications, the LG V30 and V30+ run on Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system with the LG UX 6.0 skin on top. They sport a 6” QHD+ (1440×2880 pixels) FullVision OLED 638ppi display with the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top. Both the smartphones are powered by up to 2.45GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC coupled with Adreno 540 GPU. The LG V30 offers 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while the V30+ comes with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The storage can be further expanded up to 2TB via microSD card.

For photography, the LG V30 and V30+ come equipped with a dual rear camera setup including one 16MP 1/3.09-inch sensor, f/1.6 aperture and a 71-degree field of view, and second 13MP 1/3.4-inch sensor with a 120-degree field of view. The rear camera setup is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top and offers features like laser autofocus, dual-LED flash, and crystal clear glass lens instead of plastic. LG is touting the rear camera system as the world’s first camera system to ship with an aperture of f/1.6 which should technically entail in outstanding low light photography.  On the front, it has a 5MP selfie shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and a 90-degree wide-angle lens.

The LG V30 and V3+ are fueled by a 3300mAh battery with the support for both fast and wireless charging. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, USB Type-C (v3.1), GPS/ A-GPS, FM radio, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors on board include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. There is also a fingerprint scanner at the back. They measure 151.7×75.4×7.3mm and weighs 158 grams.
