Just a year ago, TCL showcased its work on foldable phones. Later in 2019, the company even shows its foldable smartphone prototype. And now, it looks like the company was about to show a completely different concept in the world of dual-display phones at the MWC 2020. But unfortunately, it got cancelled due to the threat of Coronavirus.
Renders of a TCL phone with a unique slide-out display have surfaced online that gives us a completely new concept of phone-tablet hybrid form factor. As of now, we don’t know what exactly this phone is called from TCL and whether it is just a concept phone or it will turn out to be real.
The renders of TCL’s remarkable phone-tablet hybrid come courtesy of CNET, but there is no word as to when it will be launched and how much it will cost. In its standard form, the TCL phone looks like a regular phone with curved sides and a dual hole-punch design. At the back, the phone has a glossy finish with a vertically aligned quad rear camera module. To create the slide-out mechanism, TCL appears to have used a disjointed frame design.
Both the front and the back camera has been placed very intelligently that they slide-out with the second display making work for both of the displays in both of the configurations. Just above the pill-shaped hole-punch and the corresponding position at the bottom, the TCL phone’s frame has a gap. This can be pulled out to reveal the rest of the display. It appears that the extended portion of the display is folded and tucked beneath the main display when the device is being used as a phone and can be pulled out to turn it into a tablet.
As of now, there is no information on the sizes of the inner and outer display and its resolution, and the same goes for the rest of the internal hardware. We also have no information regarding the megapixel count of the four rear cameras and the two selfies snappers. Since this is one of the first renders of the TCL dual-display phone, we can expect to see more about in the coming weeks.
