Last year, we have seen a surprising launch of Apple Card from the Cupertino-based tech giant. The company launched this service to help Apple users make smarter financial decisions with the help of an app. Although the Apple Card comes with a lot of advanced features, it was just a cash-back credit card. And now, it looks like Google is also planning to launch a similar product in the name of Google Card.
According to a report from TechCrunch, Google is developing a product called Google Card which will be used as a “smart debit card.” Although most of the concepts are similar to that of Apple Card, Google Card is a “debit card” instead of a “credit card.” If we consider the report, Google will launch this as a physical card which can also be used as a virtual debit card in Google Pay. However, the most notable difference between Google Card and another debit/credit card is, it will be integrated with detailed financial tracking.
Just like most of the cards, Google Card will also be connected with your checking account. The user will be allowed to access and check balance, add money, track purchases, lock it, and many more. This card will be co-branded with bank partners such as CITI and Stanford Federal Credit Union.
The report also shows a leaked image of Google Card. The physical Google Card is seen in white color with the logo of the partnered bank and Google. The image shows a chip card from the Visa network, however, the final version could come with some other networks also. The card also features a strange design with a blue and green color dot pattern. However, there is no word whether this card design will be final.
Since the card will be tied with the app, it will allow users to access multiple advanced features. The app will show recent transactions with merchant and date details. In addition to that, you will be able to see the location of purchases on the map. In case, if a card is lost or foul play is suspected, the user can lock the card immediately from the app and order a replacement. During the replacement period, the physical card will be temporarily locked until the new card arrives. However, the virtual card will be usable as before, so, you can make online transactions.
If we consider the images showing the setting section of the app, we can see notification options and privacy controls. Since these will be financial information, most of the people have concerns sharing them with third-party. Users will have controls to share what information they want to share with Google.
As of now, there is no word on when Google Card will be available to use. However, we can expect to hear something soon from the tech giant.
