John Boyega and Teyonah Parris Express Their Admiration for Jamie Foxx

[Editor’s note: This interview was recorded prior to the SAG strike.]

Sure, Jamie Foxx has established himself as an incredible actor through his powerful performances in movies like Ray, Jarhead, Dreamgirls, Django Unchained, and Sleepless. However, Foxx is equally known for his comedic skills, bringing laughter to audiences in films like the Horrible Bosses and Rio franchises. His next project, They Cloned Tyrone on Netflix, will see him sharing the screen with talented actors such as Teyonah Parris and John Boyega. In an interview with Collider, Parris and Boyega discussed their experiences working with Foxx and how their chemistry enhanced their performances.

Parris praised Foxx for his quick wit and ability to come up with clever jokes on the spot. Whenever she struggled with delivering a sharp one-liner, Foxx would offer her comedic suggestions, which Parris found impressive. She also had nothing but positive things to say about working with Boyega, describing his character Fontaine as the “metronome” of the cast. Parris contrasted her high-energy role as Yo-Yo and Foxx’s slick character with Boyega’s cool and collected presence, which brought balance to the trio.

Similarly, Boyega praised the performances of both Foxx and Parris. He appreciated Parris for her extroverted high energy, which motivated and guided the cast through scenes, and Foxx for his improvisational skills that brought fresh ideas to their performances. Boyega described working with Foxx as giving him the freedom to imagine and experiment, which he found genuinely cool.
