Acclaimed actress Jennifer Lawrence recently made a comeback to Hollywood with leading roles in movies like Don’t Look Up, Causeway, and the upcoming comedy, No Hard Feelings. During an interview with Variety, she expressed her interest in returning to the role that put her on the map – that of Katniss Everdeen, the lead character of the blockbuster franchise, Hunger Games.
When asked if she would reprise her role in the age of legacy sequels, Lawrence responded with enthusiasm, “Oh my god — totally! If Katniss could ever come back into my life, 100 percent.”
The original Hunger Games was a massive box office success when it was released in 2012. The trilogy, based on Suzanne Collins’ popular young adult novels, spawned multiple movies and a prequel, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which is due to release in November. Although this prequel will not feature Katniss, Lawrence’s statement has sparked rumors of a possible post-credit scene that could lead to more Katniss adventures in follow-up films.
Lawrence had taken a break from acting for three years to regain control over her career, and it is yet to be seen if she would be willing to commit to a massive franchise like Hunger Games once again. Fans are excited to see if Josh Hutcherson will reprise his role as Peeta, Katniss’ love interest, or if the filmmakers would choose to remove his character altogether.
